"Machine Learning is Disrupting the entire VFX Pipeline - A case study on facial motion capture."

Machine learning is an exciting and growing field that has taken the VFX industry by storm. In this talk, Lucio will take you into the heart of Digital Domain’s Digital Humans Group, where the team has spent the last 5 years applying machine learning to the problem of creating photorealistic digital humans. In particular, Lucio will delve into the redesign of DD's facial motion capture workflow, culminating in Masquerade 2.0. This technology has been used on everything from Marvel blockbusters to a digital recreation of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He will share his personal insights about machine learning in VFX and how it is making us rethink the typical approaches to old problems and letting us solve problems that seemed insurmountable.
