"Machine learning is revolutionizing the entire special effects production line – A case study in facial motion capture."

Machine learning is an exciting and growing field that is having a major impact on the VFX industry. In this presentation, Lúcio will take you inside the heart of the Digital Humans group at Digital Domain, where the team has spent the last 5 years investing in machine learning to address the problem of creating photorealistic digital humans. Specifically, Lúcio will delve into the restructuring that occurred during this period in Digital Domain's facial motion capture process, culminating in Masquerade 2.0. This technology has been used in everything from Marvel blockbusters to the recreation of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He will share his insights on machine learning in VFX, and how it is making us rethink typical approaches to old problems and allowing us to solve problems that seemed insurmountable.
